Welcome

South Cerney Riding School began its days in South Cerney, hence the name. We are now to be found in the small village of Cerney Wick, a couple of miles to the south east of South Cerney and in easy reach of Swindon and Cirencester, being just a mile off the 1419.

The School is a busy and popular riding centre with an indoor and an outdoor school, stabling for many horses and ponies, tack room, lecture area etc.

Pupils of all ages and standards are catered for, from eighteen months to the more mature rider. We are also registered as a riding centre with the Riding for the Disabled Association and have many disabled riders who enjoy outings on our horses and ponies.

Class lessons and private tuition are available at all levels either on private animals or on riding school horses and ponies matched to the pupil’s ability. Hacking is available in the nearby Cotswold Water Parks bridleway complex and is very popular. All hacks are, of courses, escorted by capable members of staff.

Stable Management and horse care are also important features along with road safety. Courses and lessons are run so that pupils have every opportunity to handle the horses and learn to look after them properly and to ride them safely without endangering themselves or other road users.

The school runs various activities and events throughout the year. These range from clear round jumping, shows and hunter trials to picnic and barbecue rides and scavenger hunts. These activities enable pupils to put into practice the skills learnt during lessons with a greater degree of competition and fun. Children over eight (an adult must accompany younger ones) are also encouraged to help out at weekends and in the holidays by looking after some of the ponies to increase their confidence and to practice their handling skills.
